Strawberry Fair license secured
It has been a tough couple of months for the Strawberry Fair Committee, but the people of Cambridge have shown overwhelming support for the Fair, proving that it is a well loved cultural event for the City. Thank you!
We are very pleased to have reached an understanding that allows us to work closely with City Council and the Police to secure a safe, family-friendly event for 2011.
The City Council have approved the license variation request (which dealt with the issues that the Police raised in response to the initial license). The license changes are minor revisions which support our ambitions for the future of the Fair.
In 2011 we plan to have more people greeting and monitoring the public as they arrive on Midsummer Common. As in previous years the entrances into the Fair will be stewarded by qualified personnel. Their role is to be the face of the Fair, giving information and advice, but also to stop individuals carrying an excessive amount of alcohol or those suspected of being in possession of drugs.
Every year we try to improve how Strawberry Fair is run, and this year in particular we have been taking taking steps in response to public feedback to plan a better fair for the future.
As a Committee our efforts can now focus on raising funds, recruiting new volunteers and building more links in the community.
If you are a local resident or community group who would like to help shape the fair of the future please get in touch.
