November 2016 - Strawberry Fair Update

Muster up some magic and summon up your inner pixie, find your invisibility cloak and dig out your wand for we are proud to announce the theme of our 2017 fair is ... (*fanfare plays) FAIRY TALES! Welcoming all fairy godmothers and unicorns, giants and goat-munching trolls (not we hasten to add, the horrible online ones - wrong party), princes and queens, ogres and elves, trees that talk and magic books, cats that wear boots, snow queens, naughty goblins, fire-breathing dragons, whispering woods and unusual wardrobes and very unpunctual rabbits, we can't wait to see you on June 3rd. It's going to be amazing!

So with a theme in place we have also launched the T-shirt and poster design competitions (click the image for right for more information) where we ask you - the public - to be creative and come up with some superb Strawberry Fair designs. Our best T shirt seller is always black and we need to keep the design to 3 or 4 colours to keep the printing costs down. It is also preferable to send the image in as a jpeg or pdf to keep things simple. The design should also include the year ‘2017’ as these sell better. We have a standard fit and ladies fit t-shirt & the design is just on the front; visually better if it is a good sized central design. If you fancy having a go, your designs should be submitted to by January 16th 2017. The poster design will also open this month and offers a little more to designers by way of opportunity for detail as well as lots of exposure in and around the city. More details and past designs can be seen on our website and applications can be made again to

Our programming department is gearing up for the deadline for area proposals where teams new and old put forward their ideas for a particular entertainment space at the fair. If you are a team still wishing to get a proposal in - you will need to get your skates on and contact to obtain the correct form as all entries must be in by Sunday 13th November 2016.

The Strawberry fairies are as industrious as ever as they continue to gather together to paint the rubbish bins which have got a bit tired over the years. We had some wonderful designs in from a range of people young and old but our latest designs of note are from the elusive Heron Heron who seeks to cover the Cambridge landscape with his urban motif of mystery; the heron silhouette. Look below at his latest creation!! if you’re inspired to paint a bin contact

The 2017 Cambridge Band Competition kicks off soon for another year and band entries are being encouraged from all over the Cambridgeshire region. Applications will open on 1 December 2016 and more details will follow soon so start spreading the news.

Our finance and fundraising meeting met this month and we spent quite sometime looking at new and interesting ways to raise funds for the fair. We pride ourselves on staying away from large corporate sponsorship and rely instead on the goodwill and dedication of our production areas and their followers to help us raise the funds each year. You will see us in and around town over the next few months at various events including RatBag at et al at their Strawberry Fair benefit gig at the The Portland Arms on 23 November 2016 as well as Mill Road Winter Fair on 3 December 2016. If have any ideas or would like to get involved in the fundraising side of things please email us at

Strawberry Fair also makes a regular appearance on REBEL ARTS / RADIOon Cambridge 105 on their last show of each month. Listen in on 27 November where you can hear all the latest news from behind the scenes.

If you're interested in getting involved in Strawberry Fair, why don't you pop along to one of our meetings. We'd love to see you. Here are the meeting dates for this month.
