Are we excited yet?? It’s less than 8 weeks to go!! We’re like Cinderella waiting for the ball, Snow White waiting for the Prince and Jack waiting for his magic beans to grow all rolled into one! Yet, as if by magic we have granted you a sneak preview of the festivities to come: this month is packed full of Strawberry Fair fundraisers and events including the big one that is Strawberry Sundae.

As Spring slips into summer, the Strawberry Fair team are getting ready for the city’s biggest community celebration. For many people the fair signals the start of the festival season, so why not get in the mood by celebrating the arrival of long lazy evenings at the Strawberry Sundae All Dayer. Nestled on the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday weekend in one of Cambridge’s best pubs, we offer a little taste of what Strawberry Fair has to offer. Good music, odd things to do and great food.

The day kicks off around 2pm with live music, poetry and funny happenings in the lounge bar. (If you get there a bit earlier than that you can catch Arco Iros playing in Mitchams Corner!) All afternoon, we've got arty things and circus skills for kids to do and a big dress up box for adults to get silly. Hayley has food on the BBQ and of course there is the excellent pub grub that the Portland is famous for.

The Strawberry Fair Auction is a unique way to sell off lovely art work, novelties and promises in the garden. The auction has become one of the best ways to raise a few laughs and some much needed money to help the fair go off with a bang. Lots so far include a recording session, arty photographs, craft items and record label gift vouchers. I am sure that you will be pleased to know that there is still plenty of time to donate something to the auction with all proceeds going directly to the fair. This is a great way to show the fair some love by giving us something valuable that we can sell off in a fun auction. Auctioneers Lulu says, "No gift is too small - no bid is too little!"

As the evening wears on we turn our attention to some of Cambridge’s finest artists. The line up is still being confirmed so watch this space for more information in the next week or two.

Entry costs just £5 and kids are free in the afternoon - although Hayley and Steve prefer you to take the little ones home before the noisy evening’s shenanigans kick off.

Strawberry Sundae - Sunday 30th April, The Portland Arms, Chesterton Road, Cambridge - 2pm to Midnight - £5 on the door.

We have this month officially become A community interest company (CIC); a type of company, designed for social enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good. CICs have all the flexibility and certainty of a Ltd company, but with some special features to ensure they are working for the benefit of the community.
A community interest company is a business with primarily social objectives whose profits are reinvested back into the business, so that means that all money we ever take and make will always be ploughed back into Strawberry Fair’s future.

SYNERGISTIC BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS .. (try saying that after a few beers?!)

Are you a local, independent business that shares our community values and would like to work with us? Whilst we are very clear on the fact we do not use sponsorship to fund the fair or share our name with any other organisation, we do still have fantastic opportunities for local businesses to get involved with the event.

Remember, we are one of Europe’s biggest and longest-standing free festivals with an impressive a footfall of at least 35,000 every year, not to mention a thriving social media community and a busy website with high volumes of traffic. We are always open to discussions about how we can build value for the Strawberry Fair festival goer and if you can add to that in some way with your company’s involvement, we’d be very happy to hear from you.

Some affiliation opportunities are:

Raffle / Auction prizes
Roaming performances
Program advertising (online and paper copy)
Synergistic Area sponsorship
Website affiliation and links
